#Euroseeds2024 Congress “Exploring collaboration and the new frontiers of innovation”

In the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, from October 13 to 16, the Euroseeds Congress #Euroseeds2024 took place, gathering nearly 1300 industry professionals, 50 exhibitors, and 1000 traders from over 60 countries to exchange insights on seed innovation, regulation and sustainability.

The key topics during the crop-specific workshops and panel discussions included updates on important EU legislations, including new regulations concerning seed marketing, new genomic techniques, packaging, and deforestation. Additionally, the congress featured critical updates on intellectual property issues; a presentation of the Denmark’s agriculture and seed sector; global seed certification efforts and in-depth market overviews for various crops. The congress emphasized that achieving sustainable agricultural practices is vital for ensuring a reliable food supply, addressing environmental challenges, and meeting the needs of the growing population while also protecting natural resources.

As for the latest addition to the Euroseeds congress, the #InnovActionStage showcased 12 ground-breaking technologies developed for a wide range of breeding solutions: mobile cell analysis solutions, machine learning, AI, CRISPR, gene editing, 3D phenotyping and more.

The trade and exhibition spaces offered businesses a platform to showcase a wide range of innovations. These include the latest advancements in technical equipment and mechanical components, cutting-edge processing technologies, and state-of-the-art plant breeding software.

The congress also marked a significant change in Euroseeds leadership. Michael Gohn of the Austrian Seed Association concluded his term as Euroseeds President. Søren Halbye from DLF was elected in his place.

The final panel debate discussed the future of agricultural policy in Europe, emphasizing the need to balance environmental sustainability with economic viability and food security.

Garlich v. Essen, Secretary General of Euroseeds, concluded the congress by emphasizing the importance of leadership, clear priorities, and strong commitment to drive agricultural progress. He stressed the need for flexibility, innovation, and investment to secure a sustainable future for agriculture in Europe.
